Nose strips and a deviated septum: what actually helps
A deviated septum is an internal wall problem. A nose strip is an external valve fix. Here's why fixing the second one still helps the first — and when you need an ENT instead.
Two different narrowings
Air entering your nose passes two bottlenecks: the external nasal valve (the soft tissue at the nostrils) and the internal valve / septum (the wall of cartilage and bone in the middle). A nose strip only opens the first one.
That sounds like it shouldn't help — but airflow resistance is cumulative. Fixing one bottleneck reduces total resistance even if the other stays narrow. Most people with mild septal deviation report meaningful improvement.
When nose strips help
